We don’t know about you, but with the cooler weather finally upon us and Christmas just a couple of months away, baking starts to seem far lovelier, especially when you’ve got Mini Bakers in the house. But we have to admit, some of us aren’t natural pastry masters — when we’re craving cake or cookies, we buy rather than bake. So, for both the bakers and buyers, we’re sharing our top five supply stores and bakeries.
Sugar Craft
The stationer of all things baking. Found in Triq Tas-Sisla, Swatar, it’s got shelves upon shelves of everything you could possibly need as well as things you didn’t know you needed. Quite the bakers’ and decorators’ paradise.
Frensh
Even the best bakers among us fall head over heels in love with a buttery French pastry. Frensh (yes, that is actually how it’s spelt) is a bakery in Balluta, St Julian’s, that sells fresh French croissants, tartelettes, eclairs, and loaves and baguettes, amongst other things. Buy a box with an assortment for a delicious tea at home.
Cake Story
This shop covers everything from cake making to cake decorating, but also all the supplies for making bread, pizza and pies. They also have a sweet selection of tea sets, teapots, aprons and cake servers and stands that can work as gifts for avid bakers (including, possibly, yourself). They’re located in Triq il-Kappillan Mifsud, Santa Venera, and also have an online shop offering delivery.
The Kitchen Store
There’s a lot more in store than baking supplies here, but their range of tins, trays, biscuit
cutters and everything in between is excellent. You can find them in several places around
Malta, but they’ve got an online shop, too.
Livvy’s Homemade Bakes and Treats
When life gives you lemons, make a luxurious lemon drizzle cake – or order one from Livia
Tabone-Mangan. She bakes the classics but also offers well-loved traditional treats with a
twist. Whatever you go for, her cakes are guaranteed to make any occasion more fabulous.
